Night Grinding Protective Appliance
Do you notice your teeth breaking? Are your teeth wearing down or chipping? Do you wake up with headaches or tired facial muscles?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions you may be clenching or grinding your teeth at night. Night time grinding (bruxing) can strain jaw joints, cause muscles to work overtime and become sore. Grinding can also wear down tooth enamel, making teeth thin and sharp. Sensitivity to cold and chewing are also common side effects.
If any of these are happening you may benefit from a custom fitted night guard.
When properly adjusted the night guard will protect your teeth from wear and help relax muscles, putting less strain on the jaws. If made correctly, a night guard should be very comfortable. In fact, in our experience patients report they feel the difference when they forget to wear their guard.
The key to a good night guard is having it fitted and adjusted very carefully.
