Dental Crowns

When a tooth is fractured, has an extensive filling that is wearing down or has decay underneath, a crown can restore the tooth to its normal shape and can allow for better chewing and a nicer smile.

Crowns (or caps) can be made of many different materials. Yellow gold has proven to be very durable for decades, especially when someone wears their teeth heavily. A strong durable crown that looks tooth coloured, is made of white gold underneath for strength and has porcelain on top to make the crown look more appealing to the eye.

The most aesthetic crowns are made of just porcelain and as with many things in life there is a trade off. This crown will best resemble your own natural tooth but will have a shorter lifespan because of a higher potential for fracture. The lifespan is reliant on many factors including the patients bite adjustment.

Crowns, done well, can look good and have excellent durability. When done with the help of a good dental team and lab technician a crown can be completed in approximately 2 weeks start to finish. During the 2 week period you will have a well fitted temporary crown in which you can function fully and comfortably with.
